1. A rectangle has a base length of 5cm and height of 10 cm. What is the area?
To find the area of a rectangle you can cover the rectangle with 1x1 squares.
 
The area of a rectangle is base x height.
5cm x 8 cm = 40 cm^2
2. I need a tarp to cover my 6 ft by 6 ft garden. How many square feet of tarp do I need to cover it?
6 ft x 6 ft = 36 ft^2
